Artist’s Note: PNEUMA is a human-reactive artwork that creates meaning only when it is engaged by passersby on the public street. The word ‘pneuma’ refers to the vital spirit, soul, or creative force of a person. The system purports to reveal this by deploying its computer vision to track each participant’s expressions, position, and skeletal movement through three-dimensional space. It then applies dozens of generative patterns and shapes to each virtual body, and instantly projects the new personas back into the street — further compelling the participant to discover their own pneumas through spontaneous personal performances.
