CALL TO ARTISTS

PUBLIC SUBMISSIONS NO LONGER ACCEPTED AFTER 8/31/22.

As a response to the violence epidemic in the United States, CNL Projects and Terrain Exhibitions have relaunched ART-IN-PLACE for late summer 2022. Over two years after the first iteration, ART-IN-PLACE continues its efforts to bring people together to call us to action through the experience of public art. We invite artists of any medium and experience level to respond to the current state of our country by exhibiting an original work of art or performance in public. This artwork/performance can be displayed outside a home, on a lawn, from a window visible to the public, or through an artist-formed partnership with a local business between August 15-October 15, 2022. This collective action provides artists and community members in neighborhoods throughout the country with a sense of hope and connectivity and offers opportunities to impact change fundamental to our human rights.

Following artwork installation, artists will document the work in situ and share images with the project’s organizers via google form. Final images will be uploaded to artinplace.net and promoted to potential collectors, supporters and enthusiasts. Original works of art will also be made available and directly sold from participating artists at their discretion. Organizers ask that with each sale of original artwork, artists donate 20% to an organization working to combat the many ongoing violences in the United States.

ART-IN-PLACE seeks to:

  • Provide artists and community members in Chicagoland neighborhoods (and beyond) with a sense of hope and connectivity through the experience of public art.

  • Offer artists the opportunity to participate in a collective action to create a sense of connection and draw people to action during an unprecedented moment of violence in this country.

  • Promote the work of artists to positively contribute to their careers during a challenging moment.

  • Provide public art audiences with tools to impact change in their communities and nation.

  • Generate financial contributions to both artists and organizations that are fighting for justice, equity and human rights.
